Locke explicitly states, For a man, not having the power of his own life, cannot by compact or his own consent enslave himself to any one (Locke 22). With this statement Locke firmly and pointedly argues against what at the time was the growing popularity of chattel, or ownership slavery. This practice had slaves surrendering power over their own lives to owners who then used them at their discretion. Locke writes, Nobody can give more power than he has himself; in essence, he believes that since no man has full power over his own life (that power is reserved for God) he cannot under any circumstances surrender himself and his life and liberty to any other man (Locke 22). Locke, in his writings at least, seems fully prepared to fight the growing rise of ownership slavery, perhaps even to the point where he would lose his own standing in the public eye and in the government. Also, under this tenet of his philosoph y Locke would deem the rising practice of enslaving Africans in North America wrong and illegal because it is blatant ownership slavery. Despite this vaunted position that Locke takes on chattel slavery, he does condone slavery under certain conditions.In his Second Treatise Locke comes to terms with two types of slavery. First off, there is retribution slavery, which he sums up as the perfect condition of slavery: it entails limited power on one side of the contract and obedience on the other (Locke 23). It is also defined by Locke as a continuation of a state of war in which the person who has committed such an act as deserves death is given delay by the person whom he has attacked in order that he may make him useful for his own services (Locke 22). This form of slavery is modernly defined as imprisonment. Simply put, someone who has done wrong must enter into a contract with those whom he has wronged in order to make retribution for his actions. This idea is often called r etribution slavery because the criminal is making up for what he has done by forfeiting his services to the government or person that he has harmed in some way. The other type of slavery that Locke recognizes is the kind found in the Bible. He only condones this because it is plain this was only to drudgery, not to slavery (Locke 23). He says that the Jews were not under full control because the master did not have the power to kill them at will; therefore, this was not chattel slavery and was thus somewhat acceptable. These two cases are important to a full understanding of Lockes ideas on slavery. He allows imprisonment and Biblical slavery because their tenets do not fall under the category of chattel or ownership slavery, which he feels is wrong. As many scholars and authors have noted, Locke frequently contradicts himself in his writings, but he may also have contradicted himself in his actions, as well.In Chapter V, Locke discusses the nature of property and how it factor s into the ownership of a man. It is through labor that a man can make any piece of the state of nature his. By taking something from the state of nature and mixing it with his inherently held labor, a man makes that something his own. He clarifies this idea further by saying, For this labor being the unquestionable property of the laborer, no man but he can have a right to what that is once joined to (Locke 26). This clarification raises an obvious question in terms of slavery: if a slave uses his inherent labor to make something from the state of nature his property, is it really his, or is it his masters? Locke never truly addresses this contradiction; it seems that there is no obvious explanation. It can be surmised, however, that Locke would say that a slave is not a man and does not have to rights that men do; thus, he has forfeited his labor to his owner or master. If slaves are not men, how can Locke stand behind his premise of all men being equal in stature in the st ate of nature? Locke also found other ways to contradict his stance on slavery by writing a highly controversial charter for the Carolinas and investing in the slave trade itself. The charter that Locke wrote for the Carolinas (which was never used) gave them the right to institute slavery and gave the men who settled there the right to import and own slaves in the form of chattel slavery (Norton Anthology). How is it possible that a man who condemns chattel slavery would suggest that this very form of slavery was condonable? There is another case to be made for Lockes acceptance of slavery that involves his personal actions. Lockes commercial trading activities as a government official eventually spilled over into the slave trade. He was an investor in the East India Trading Co.: one of the first companies to precipitate the slave trade (Norton Anthology). He is said to have viewed the slave trade as an important and economically empowering venture for England. This may see m preposterous given his opinion of chattel slavery, but there is strong empirical evidence to support this contention. Whatever Locke may have written on the topic of slavery, he most certainly did not back up his stated beliefs with his personal actions.Although it is impossible to definitively state why a man who wrote a treatise that condemned chattel slavery would have gone on to invest in that same form of slavery, that is the legacy of John Locke. We can discern from his Second Treatise of Government that he condemned outright ownership or chattel slavery, but we can also discern that Locke wrote an unused charter for the Carolinas that included a provision allowing chattel slavery and that he then went on to invest in companies that precipitated the slave trade for the sake of his countrys economic advancement. Whatever Lockes writings may say about his perspective on slavery, they directly contradict with the actions of his personal and professional life. Indeed, it app ears that John Locke led a decidedly muddled life outside of the philosophies that he committed to paper.

When people hear the term full ride scholarship or a free ride in relation to a college education, they often picture having everything handled. But a full ride scholarship doesnt necessarily make college free. Often, these arrangements only handle a part of the college experience. And your child is on the hook for the rest.So, what exactly does a full ride scholarship from an institution actually cover? And what will your student be responsible for beyond what is provided to truly make college free? While the answer varies depending on the arrangement, here is a review of the most typical expenses that can be covered as well as those that fall outside of the box.Tuition and Certain FeesIn most cases, a full ride scholarship includes tuition and tuition only. It can also include certain fees, like lab fees, though that isnt always the case. Often, tuition is the largest single expense your student will face, so it is certainly something to smile about.Still, tuition was only half of my total cost of attendance my freshman year (I will talk about the other expenses in just a minute.)Even though these funds dont have to be repaid, it is important to note that they could come with a different kind of obligation. For example, a full ride based on a sports scholarship for the institution does require your student meet certain performance standards, both on the field and off. Failing to meet these requirements could mean losing the full ride scholarship, leaving tuition squarely on their shoulders as they finish their degree.Non-sport related institutional scholarships can come with obligations too. It could make a certain GPA mandatory, as well as participation in certain activities outside of those associated with their required course work.In essence, your child could be trading a form of work for tuition. While this isnt a bad deal at all, it is important to understand how it works. Additionally, there are still a lot more expenses that need to be covered to actu ally make their college free.Ultimately, when many people say they received a full ride scholarship from a university, you may be surprised to know that they actually mean they had tuition completely covered. Nearly all students who receive a free ride from an institution need to cover some sort of expenses on their own.Lets talk about those other expenses:Room and BoardIf there is anything included in a full ride scholarship in addition to tuition, room and board (or housing and food) are the next most common. And these expenses combined can exceed the cost of tuition, in some cases.When room and board are included, this typically means your child will be assigned to a dorm room and will be given access to a meal plan through the college or university cafeteria system. Your student could have limited control regarding where they are placed (though that is common for incoming freshman regardless of how the expenses are covered) and might be restricted in certain ways. Additionally, the same obligations that apply to the tuition will likely apply here.In cases where room and board arent part of the deal, your student is essentially on their own to make sure these get covered. According to LeadEDU, the average cost of room and board for 2017-2018 is an additional $10,800 at four-year public schools to $12,210 at private schools. As you can see, depending on where your child plans to study, this could be more than tuition!Still, there are ways to save when it comes to housing. Textbooks are notoriously expensive; in some cases, they cost $1,000 a year or more for undergraduates. In fact, some books can cost $200 on their own, and that may only cover one class for one semester!My favorite two ways of saving money on textbooks include Chegg, a site where I was able to rent bo oks or even sell my textbooks back as well as purchasing used books from classmates. Youd be surprised but often times you can save by going one or two editions back many times the changes are minimal and wont impact the student at all!Supply costs vary depending on the class and your childs preferences. Paper, book bags, pencils, pens, notebooks, Scantron forms, and other items arent expensive on the surface but do add up over time. Some scientific or technical classes could require supplies that are somewhat out of the standard, like a particular calculator or safety equipment that isnt handled through class fees. And, if your college student doesnt have a laptop, thats likely another supply thatll need to be covered.Exactly what theyll need varies depending on the institution, or even the instructor, so figuring this out in advance can be challenging as well. In some cases, supplies will be listed on the syllabus or other provided materials, though they might not be completely a ware of what they need until there are sitting in the classroom and get told to buy it.Personal ExpensesCosts in this category are squarely on the shoulders of the student in the vast majority of full ride scholarships. Cell phone bills, laundry, dorm room furniture and small appliances, food outside of the meal plan, toiletries, clothes, electronics, entertainment, and almost anything else not mentioned above fall into this category.Transportation can be a big part of the personal expenses category as well, especially if your child intends to bring a car. Money for gas, maintenance, parking, and insurance isnt going to be covered in a free ride and can suck up a decent portion of any budget by itself. He sought for the day that his race for finally have civil equality in every aspect of life. Research Setting The subject of this research study is the nurses in Saudi Arabia. Three health-care organizations in Saudi Arabia were selected to conduct the research study. Three kinds of nurses shall be targeted for the research study: First line nurse managers, middle level nurse managers and bedside nurses. These nurses shall be provided with the questionnaire form as attached in Appendix 2. The results generated from the survey shall be analysed by the researcher to build arguments and implement in several educational fields (Gerrish, Lacey Cormack, 2012). Population Sample A total population of 300 nurses shall participate in the study. Through simple random sampling, a sample size of 200 participants shall be selected. Simple random sampling is a probability sampling method in which every participant has an equal chance of being chosen. Only the survey forms that have fully been answered shall be chosen as a part of the research study (Levy Lemeshow, 2013). Instruments The data for this research study is collected using a questionnaire containing the instruments: Perceived Conflict Scale and Valiga Concept of Nursing Scale (Zakari, Al Khamis, Hamadi, 2010). The Perceived Conflict Scale is designed to measure the level of conflict with 16 items on a Liker-type scale. However, the reliability shall be low if the coefficient is less than 60% (Sacks Volker, 2015). Data Collection Methods Data can be collected using primary and secondary methods. For the purpose of this research study, primary data is collected. In primary method of collection, data is directly collected by the researcher for the purpose of research study. The method is chosen as the data is accurate and highly reliable. As the data will be originally collected, subjective bias shall be eliminated. There are two approaches to collecting data- Qualitative and quantitative approach. A variety of techniques and methods in quantitative data collection methods are survey, observation, scales and physiological measurement (Coombs, 2015). This research study shall significantly involve quantitative data as the survey shall be analysed based on numerical data. The questionnaire shall be handed over in the hospital wards with paper and pencil so that the participants can participate in the survey (Dempsey Reilly, 2016). Data Analysis The data collected from the surveys were done using SPSS software package. SPSS or Statistical Package for the Social Science shall be useful to compute complex data. It is chosen as the software also prepares the graphs and charts for the results. Firstly, the collected data shall be entered in the SPSS software package. The data shall be processed for calculating multiple coefficients and relationships (Gunasingam et al., 2015). The quantitative results can be analysed using Pearson correlation analysis to assess the inter-relationships among the quantitative variables. To measure internal consistency, Cronbachs alpha coefficient was calculated to assess reliability. Further, measures of central tendency shall be calculated where mean will be computed. The mean scores will be converted into percentage to compute standard deviation (Glazer, Clark Bankston, 2015). Ethical Consideration This research study shall have ethical considerations to address issues with participants. The participants shall be provided with consent forms that shall state the overall benefits or risks associated with participation. Written consent shall be generated and the consent forms shall be signed by the participants ensuring that they participated in the research study voluntarily. The anonymity or confidentiality of the participants such as name, contact or any responses provided by them shall be maintained. The participants shall not be penalized if they choose to withdraw from the research study at any time. The research study involves no anticipated risk to the participants (Glogowska et al., 2015). Any response provided by the participants shall not affect their nature of employment. No misleading information shall be provided to the research participants. Any bias shall be avoided that would distort the primary result findings. The participants have the right to contact the super visor or ethics committee if they find any discrepancy in the method of conducting research. None of the research questions in the study was sensitive that could hurt religious, cultural or political sentiments of the participants (Keeling, 2015). Pilot study It is important to test the survey before using it to collect data. Pre-test and piloting can help in identifying questions that would lead to biased answers. After preparing the questionnaire, the questions were shown to the colleagues and a few people who are in the nursing field. The questionnaire was administered to 10 people where they were debriefed about the survey (Mensik Nickitas, 2015). The information provided by them was analyzed to clarify any confusion or directions and revision was done as necessary. Observation was made to analyze the questions where the participants took greater amount of time. The sample of 10 responses were collected, coded and analyzed. The questions that made no relevance were discarded and final revisions were made in the questionnaire. On an average, every participant took 15-20 minutes to complete the survey (Moore, Everly Bauer, 2016). Limitation of Study The research study has certain limitations. The scope of study is limited as it only explores the level of conflict and professionalism. The scope of the study does not cover the strategies adopted by the nurses to avoid conflict or enhance professionalism. The research data collection method adopted for this research is only primary in nature (Costa Yakusheva, 2016). Therefore, the results are solely based on trustworthiness of the respondents. The secondary data collection is not adopted that ignores the results of previous studies. Another major limitation is that the questionnaire is conducted in English. The primary language of the nurses in hospitals is Arabic and the questionnaire is in English. Therefore, it might be difficult for some nurses to interpret the concrete terms (Gomez-Cantorna et al., 2015). The redesigning process will be helpful for the company update with the changes in the market. The model provides factual support to the company and gives valuable awareness to the current market condition and the challenge of active exertion (Mathiesen et al. 2013) A proper differentiation is created between the universal activity and the management of Petes Dynatrix Pty Ltd. The redesign process informs a way of thinking about the management process, which is helpful in developing a bonding among different departments of the organizati on establishing a common language and creating a sense of responsibility among the employees (Dub 2015). The reduction of miscellaneous expenses will also be helpful for the team during the implementation of the process. The BPM will be costly in the short run and but will become profitable in the long term, providing profit and reasonability to the organization. The development and implementation of the process will always be beneficial for the team giving them a head start and updated with the changing market environment, making the organization gain its previous market share (Kathpalia and Raman 2014). Conclusion: The company, Dynatrix has some real issues which have been identified in this report and probable solutions have been recommended. The organization should implement those strategies fast in order to survive in the market as things are getting worse. Pete should put these strategies into action to gain the lost market share as people have liked its products in the past.
